Behavior Problem Modification

Jumping, pulling, growling at guests, chewing and bolting: behavior problems addressed by speaking the dog’s language and teaching you to communicate with your dog. Honest assessment, no shock collars.

Many dogs have behavior problems due to their home and public environments. Many times these challenges can be handled easily by “speaking the dog’s language” and learning to communicate with your animal. Behavior problems are addressed as they are recognized, and controlled or assessed accordingly.

Our specialty is behavior modifications, social manners and skills, and fundamental obedience. The three are worked together because most household problems (jumping on guests, growling at company, chewing, pulling, bolting) are communication problems first.

Behavior concerns need individual assessment. Ira will discuss what his program can address. Sudden behavior changes, severe fear or aggression also warrant advice from your veterinarian or a qualified animal behaviorist.

Behavior challenges we work on

  • Jumping on people and guests
  • Pulling and lunging on the leash
  • Growling or barking at visitors and company
  • Destructive chewing: shoes, carpet, drywall, cables
  • Bolting through doors and rushing the food bowl
  • Manners in public places and around other dogs
  • Drive therapy, patience and impulse work in the Advanced program

Behavior Modification: common questions

Can training fix aggression?

Aggression needs an individual assessment. Contact Ira before booking to discuss your dog’s history and whether his program is suitable. Severe or sudden aggression also needs veterinary assessment.

Why does my dog misbehave only with guests?

Guests add distractions and excitement, and dogs respond differently. Ira can help assess the situation and teach you how to practice calmer greetings.

How does the evaluation work?

The initial service call is a 2–3 hour evaluation and training visit ($199, included in every package). Ira meets you and your dog where the problems happen, starts training on the spot, and lays out the program that fits.

Ready to start behavior modification?

Tell Ira what you’d like to change. The in-home evaluation and first lesson take 2–3 hours and cost $199, included in every package.
